Since the beginning of time mankind has dreamed of flying, and the Zeppelin airship has passed on into cultural legend. The very name evokes visions of giant passenger ships voyaging across land and sea. And like a massive blimp with a skeletal framework, Stührling Original’s Zeppelin Z2 is a monstrosity in its own right! The humongous timepiece called the Zeppelin Z2 boasts a floating movement in an over-sized case. The unique tonneau-shaped five-piece case is constructed of only the finest 316L surgical-grade stainless steel and has been treated with black ionic plating. And even though it provides an enormous housing for the skeletonized mechanical self-winding movement, you will hardly even know that you are wearing it, as the Zeppelin Z2 is intriguingly comfortable with its anatomical curvature of the case. Of course, with its curved topside and curved case-back, the Zeppelin Z2 is fitted with gigantic custom-cut and curved Krysterna™ crystals on the front and back. Through the jumbo window on the front is an unobstructed view of the skeletonized and handsomely engraved 20-jewel mechanical automatic movement, Stührling caliber 90050. A workhorse of an engine, this classic three-hand movement beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour. Through the window on the backside, the view is just as spectacular featuring a black ionic plated rotor which itself has been skeletonized and hand-engraved. The engraved back-plates have been mostly cut away and the balance wheel, mainspring, and blued steel screws are all clearly visible. The Zeppelin Z2 is mounted on a stylish yet durable 24-millimeter wide amply padded genuine leather strap sporting contrast stitching and is completed with a whopping black ionic plated tang buckle. The Zeppelin Z2’s five-piece case design is a rare find in watches yet allows for solid protection and visibility of the movement from the front to back. The union of the rigid case and intricate movement serves as an essential ingredient of the timepiece’s artistic value. The Zeppelin Z2’s innovative style embodies the spirit of the Zeppelin airships’ “outside the box” ingenuity of its day!
